Recently I was surprised more than once person I had a discussion with was unaware of what happened at The Station Night Club in Rhode Island, almost 20 years ago.
It was a tour manager of an upcoming band, maybe in his early 30’s who was oblivious to this event. Being a professional in this industry I was surprised to hear this. I tested the awareness of this, and realized that more than a few people did not know of this. A few had limited knowledge, I’m unaware if I have readers, if I do, have you heard of this? This February marks 2o years.
This event did change a lot of how events and venues were run, and now almost 20 years later, policies are still in place operations that adjusted to this tragedy have remained implemented. For example priorate this fire, capacities of venues were not enforced to the liquor license code. Now they are. It was also common for venues to chain alternate doors to prevent people from sneaking in. This no longer happens.
A documentary has been made, watch it if you can. 100 people senselessly died that night.
The tour manager who set off the pyro told me 18 months earlier, ‘no fire no show’ I know based on what I read he was extremely remorseful for igniting the pyro that killed 100. Even plead guilty to 100 counts of manslaughter. No trial, straight to jail. 22 moments served…
That is todays entry, a little history lesson.
And tonight I have an event, all the way from Italy, Bulldozer on their 40 years of Wrath tour. Should be an awesome night!!
