The Norwegian Black & Roll Brigade was established in Norway 2004. After the tragic death of Valfar in January 2004, the rest of the Windir members decided to end Windir, and put their energy into other projects.

Hváll formed a new band, called Vreid. Vreid is a Norwegian word for wrath. Vreid started of with the 3 Windir members Hváll (bass), Steingrim (drums), Sture (vocals/guitar) and a new guitarist named Ese. Ese had been a close friend of the Vreid members for years, and he was co-engineer on Windir’s Likferd album.

In the period of 2004 -2006 Vreid released the 2 albums Kraft & Pitch Black Brigade on Tabu Recordings. The music was described as a natural continuance of the music Hváll wrote for Windir and Ulcus, but with its own personal sound. A mixture of the ambiance of Windir, the the rawness of Norwegian black metal and the rocking groove of Sepultura, Metallica and Motörhead was a description of the music of Vreid. The lyrics were in both English & Norwegian, and heavily influenced by historical themes. The band followed up the releases by doing 3 tours all over Europe with Enslaved.

Late 2006 they signed a deal with Indie recordings. Their third album, I Krig (Norwegian for: In War), was released in May 2007. All the lyrics on this record were based on poems from 1946 by Gunnar Reiss-Andersen, a member of the Norwegian resistance fighters during WW2 . On the I Krig sessions Vreid did a European tour with Marduk & Enslaved + several major festivals.

In 2009 they released their 4th album Milorg. The album had English lyrics, and once again delt with the resistance movements work in Norway during WW2. The album got a fantastic response, and is Vreid greatest success to date. The album was followed up by 3 European tours + the bands first full North America tour. Vreid also played major festivasl such as Wacken, Summer Breeze, Inferno, Brutal Assault etc…At the end of the year Ese left the band and was replaced by "Strom" , the former Windir- and Ulcus guitarist.
In 2010 Vreid did some selected shows and festivals, and released their first DVD entitled «Goddamnit». Otherwise most time was spend working on their fifth album «V». This time they did all the recordings & mixing in Studio 1184. The album was produced by the bands songwriter & bassplayer Hváll. The release of "V" will be followed up by massive touring during 2011.

KAMPFAR’s latest album "Mare" opens a new chapter in the Norwegians’ band history, while delivering a true monument to black metal.  Frontman Dolk and the rest of the band have achieved the difficult task of giving their sound new impulses without losing their unique style.  Isolated keyboard passages and sprechgesang consort with icy riffs, dark melodies, and oppressive drums.   Dolk’s raw vocals continue to set the pace, while giving songs like "Bergtatt", Volvevers", and the title track such intensity that they are left with no other choice  but to crawl under the skin of even the most discerning black and pagan metal fans.  The album was produced by none other than Peter Tägtgren (Abyss Studio), who provided the songs with a piercing and very powerful sound.   "Mare" is the pagan black metal masters’ best work to date and is sure to become the genre’s next cult classic.
